Today we talk about the Jose Mourinho Tottenham Tactic in FM20. But first, let’s talk a little bit about the club background and about Mourinho.
In November of 2019, Tottenham Hotspur announced Jose Mourinho as the new manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino.
“In Jose, we have one of the most successful managers in football.”
“He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honors at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Chairman Daniel Levy
Tottenham enjoyed their greatest era during the 1960s and, despite a frustrating 11 years without a trophy, Spurs have a successful history. They have won a total of 28 trophies in their history, including the old English Premier Division, Cup Winners Cup, Euro Cup and played the Champions Cup finals in 2019.
Mourinho was brought to the club because it was struggling. At the moment of his appointment, the club was 14th in the league. At the end of January, Tottenham is sitting in 6th position with the same amount of points as Manchester United who is 5th.
They have a real shot at finishing 4th or better for Champions League football next season.
So, what is the Jose Mourinho FM20 Tactic?
This is what we at FMBrotherhood believe the Jose Mourinho FM 20 tactic is.
The formation is 4-2-3-1 custom wing-play with an attacking mentality.
In possession:
- More Direct Passing
- Pass Into Space
- Play Out Of Defence
- Low Crosses
- Run At Defence
- Overlap Left
- Overlap Right
In Transition:
- Distribute To Full-Backs
- Counter
- Counter-Press
Out of Possession:
- Defend Narrower
- Much Higher Defensive Line
- Much Higher Line Of Engagement
- Extremely Urgent
- Prevent Short GK Distribution
- Get Stuck In
- Use Tighter Marking
- Use Offside Trap
Players in the Jose Mourinho FM20 Tactic
Hugo Lloris is the goalkeeper of choice for Jose Mourinho. In real life, he was injured for a long time and Paulo Gazzaniga was between the posts but as soon as he recovered from injury, he took the number one spot.
Lloris is also a better goalkeeper in FM20 with 157 current ability compared to 137 of Gazzaniga.
The defensive line consists of Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Serge Aurier. And they are the best players for their position in the Tottenham team based on current ability.
Jose Mourinho loves to have strong people in midfield, that’s why he uses Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko as the midfield pair.
The three attacking midfielders are Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli, and Lucas Moura. Son and Moura are the best in their position, but the AMC position is what everyone wants to see how Mourinho will handle.
Christian Eriksen is the best in the position, but he failed to deliver this season and reports suggest he will leave Tottenham in January. Giovani Lo Celso is also available and is as good as Dele Alli, but why would you give time to someone who is there on loan?
Of course, in the front, as the Deep Lying Forward is Harry Kane. He is one of the best FM20 strikers in the game.
And that is it, that was Jose Mourinho Tottenham Tactic in Football Manager 2020 and his best players in the Tottenham team.
